About the original:

Each canvas is constructed by the artist - a very fine grade of linen is stretched over the hand made wooden frame. This is then primed with glue size and oil primer. Claire uses only the most superior quality of paint and a variety of traditional materials that date back to the Dutch masters.

The pieces although abstract are influenced by the space and light of Claire's Cornish homeland, possessing names such as Megy dowr (misty hill). Claire grew up in rural Cornwall, from the start she had a passion for making art. She followed her vocation by studying firstly at Falmouth College of Art and then moving to London for a degree in painting at Central St Martins. She is an elected life member of The Newlyn Art Society and has exhibited at The Victor Passmore Gallery as an influential young Cornish Artist.

Claire has been making and selling work since graduating in 1994 from Central St. Martins. She has exhibited regularly both in the UK and abroad throughout the last 14 years, achieving a reputation in both academic and commercial arenas. Her work has now reached over 15 different countries.

The luminous colours and mysterious rectangles create an aura of presence, deliberately still and quiet, a meditative play with space, tone, intensity and subtle hues.

The internal space of the painting is disrupted with vertical breaches; these introduce a rhythmic quality, but also act as barriers preventing the viewer from becoming immersed in the pale surface expanse and intangible hazy shapes. "What one actually sees is full of spontaneity and developing movement that is almost musical and which also conveys a sense of the spaciousness of landscape."

"Her latest work in particular seems to float free of the canvas. This is Art on which the eye lingers, but which also gives food for thought."
